Driven into your garage door? Don’t panic! The Garage Door Company are here to help. We offer new garage doors and garage door repairs in southern Scotland.
If you hit your garage door with your car – an all too common domestic accident – it pays to ask experts to look at the damage and advise you on whether to repair or replace the door.
But the very first thing to do is to ensure everyone’s ok. Even a slight bump has the potential to cause an injury to someone in the car. Before running to check the damage sustained by the car or the garage door, make sure all human passengers and pets are unharmed. Then take a close look at the garage doors panel, chassis and tracks. It’s quite possible that you’ll have to buy a new panel, if the door has sustained a large dent.
Before trying to open or close the door, scrutinise the door’s track, and see if it looks cracked or deformed.
The next thing to do is to look closely at the tracks and brackets that link the door to the opener. It’s unlikely that the opener is damaged, but it’s well worth examining it just in case. At The Garage Door Company, we have many years of experience in repairing and replacing garage doors across southern Scotland – out of our garage doors branches in Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Edinburgh and Dundee – and we find that openers just occasionally need to be replaced following a “car strike”.
Following your visual inspection, try the following if your door has a remote control. Stand well away from the garage door and press the button to test whether the door stays open. If it runs up as it should, close the door. If the opener makes a strange noise, disconnect the opener. If you don’t have an opener, try manually opening and closing the garage door. Do this carefully and slowly, and don’t try to lift or lower the door if it isn’t on its tracks.
When you’ve followed those steps, call us – your southern Scotland garage doors experts – and describe the visual and operational state of your door; if possible, be ready to send us some photos. We might be in a position to repair the damage, but in any case if the door’s a write-off, we’ll be able to give you a very reasonable quote for a replacement.
